Having cycled along the Thames cycle path from Greenwich to Tower Bridge, the views just keep getting better. 1800 years ago it was still the commercial centre of the country, the Romans made it the biggest city in the country for trade and administration. Roll forward to 1688 and Edward lloyd opened a coffee shop in Tower Street, London. From there the modern insurance concept started, from that, Merchants for Tea ,Coffee,Spice’s tobacco, etc would all have sought to cover their property. London would have been home to merchant ship’s from Europe, the Middle east, India, Russia, etc. Behind me, where i took the picture from, used to be some of the best boat builders in the world..all on my doorstep..
